Milgram's Experiment

Sophomore year English and Senior Sociology have both talked about Milgram's Experiment. Milgrams Experiment is the idea that people when told to do so, by a higher up person, will inflict harm on another person. One way this was shown was at a prestige college a couple professors asked people to come to the college and engage in a test. One person was in charge of asking the questions to another person. If the person answering the question got a question wrong the asking the questions would give them an electric shock. The person giving the shock could stop any time they wanted and knew what they were doing. I believe that if this was me I would not take any part in this. What they were doing was completely wrong. When the experiment was over Milgram found that over %60 of people went through with it.

  1. Most of the people also thought that they wouldn't and were regretful that they had when discussing it after the fact.

What in our society makes us behave like that? Why are we so obedient to authority do you think? If 60% of us are, then why are 40% not???
